Betty Mae Hull Stewart, 97, Mt. Vernon, formerly of Branson, died on Aug. 1, 2018, at the Missouri Veterans Home. She was born April 27, 1921 at Branson, MO.
Betty graduated from Branson High School and attend College of Commerce in Springfield, MO. She married Birl Shelby Stewart July 16, 1940. Both Birl and Betty served in the military during WWII, he was in the U.S. Army for over three years, and she in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years.
Betty served as President of Taney County Cancer Society, Taney County Red Cross, Taney Hills Library Club, and was an office manager at Skaggs Hospital in Branson, MO. She was Worthy Matron and District Deputy Grand Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter at Branson. She was a member of the Branson Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). As a resident of the Veterans Home, she served on the Welcoming Committee and Resident’s Council.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Wright Hull Muller and Lester Hull; three brothers, Tom, Fulton and Oren “Red” Hull; and husband Birl Shelby Stewart.
Betty is survived by two sons, Charles and wife Cheryl of Gatlinburg, TN., and David and wife Terri of Branson, MO.; four grandchildren Amber, Brady, and Chad of Gatlinburg and Alisha of Branson; step-granddaughter, Andrea Lawson; and three great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
