Richard C. Ward of Forsyth, Mo. died Wednesday January 2, 2019 at his home of natural causes. He was born August 25, 1929 in Kansas City, Mo. He was the eldest son of Ernest and Louise (Stewart) Ward.
Richard grew up in Sharon Springs, Ks. where his family was prominent in the community. He returned to Kansas City to finish high school, but at 17, following a family tradition, Richard proudly became a member of the United States Marine Corps. Richard served with distinction in Korea where he received a Purple Heart. He participated in many engagements as Primary Gunner on a tank he referred to as OL’ Thunder.
On Richard’s return to Kansas City while attending Forest Hills Baptist Church he met Ruth Marie Jensen. They were married in 1952 and were together 65 years. They relocated to St. Louis where Richard worked at the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He was a member of the International Typographical Union.
Richard and Ruth retired to Forsyth where he enjoyed building houses, long car rides and Fox News. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Forsyth, Mo.
Richard is survived by his sons Randall, Brian and wife Jami, and daughter Karla Ann and husband David. He enjoyed his grandchildren Trina, Madeline, Erin, Bradley and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife Ruth.
Visitation will be Saturday January 5, 2019 at 9:00 AM at Whelchel Grace Funeral Home in Forsyth, Mo. followed by a service at 10:00 AM. Burial will be Monday January 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM, at Bethel Christian Church Cemetery in Anabel, Mo. where he will be reunited with Ruth.
