J. Ray Coulter, born June 6, 1930 to Arch and Mary (Campbell) Coulter at Dickens, MO., died on Thursday March 25, 2021 at his home with the family at his side.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Earl, Carl, Roy (twin), Paul, Bobby and Joe; three wives, Bessie Summers Coulter, Marjorie Hodge Coulter, and the love of his life Aletha Simmons Rittershouse Coulter; oldest daughter Evelyn Jolly; step-daughter Debi and step-son David, and half-sister Leota Treat.
Ray had many odd jobs growing up in Taney County to help support his family. Ray had to quit school to help the family and later joined the Marine Corps and earned his GED while in the Marines. After returning home he married Bessie Summers of Cedar Creek and had four children: Evelyn, Roger, Melinda and Kathaleen. Ray later married Marjorie Hodge of Bradleyville, and in 1992 Ray married Aletha Simmons Rittershouse, his high school sweetheart. After Aletha’s death in 2013 Kathaleen moved in with Ray to take care of him.
Ray is survived by his children Roger of Taneyville, Melinda and husband Rocky Wyatt of Taneyville; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one stepchild, Sherri Farley and husband Steve, of Taneyville; and Kathaleen Cook of the home;
Ray worked many jobs during his lifetime: operating heavy equipment for his brother Roy in Smithville digging basements, landscaping, etc.; then moving back to Taney County in 1974 where Ray performed brush hogging, raising cattle, cutting cedar, and selling sandrock from his farm in Bradleyville.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to Snapp Cemetery, Forsyth, MO.
