Reverend Donald Eugene Brynildson, 85, of Garrison, Missouri, formerly of Ames, Iowa, went to meet his heavenly home on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
Don was born February 27, 1936 in Troy, Kansas. In 1938 his family moved to New Richland, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Lexington in the Korean Conflict.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Don attended and graduated from Augsburg College, Minneapolis in 1962. On September 27, 1963 he married Juanita (Arney) Brynildson in Rochester, Minnesota. For many years he worked in the claims department for American Family Insurance and then Employers Mutual Casualty Company in Des Moines, Iowa. Don and his family enjoyed many years traveling the Midwest, sharing love for the Lord through music and testimony. They were known as The Brynildson Family Gospel Singers.
In 2001, Don and his beautiful wife Juanita found their dream land and built their log home in the middle of the Ozark Mountains. Don was known by many as Mr. B. and Pastor B. He loved children and enjoyed sharing his knowledge through substitute teaching at local schools in the Garrison area.
In 2010, Don answered the Lord’s call to preach and became an ordained minister for the Nazarene denomination. He served several churches in the area. He actively retired in 2015. Above all else, Don loved his Lord and Savior, his family, and his friends. He was a strong presence in the lives of his family and his community, where he will be greatly missed.
Don is survived by his wife Juanita Brynildson of Garrison, Missouri, his children John Brynildson and wife Heather of Sparta, Missouri, Dawn Wallingford and husband Richard of Ames, Iowa, and six grandchildren: Liz, Miles, and Jessicah Wallingford, and Autumn, Trinity, and Elijah Brynildson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Dale Brynildson.
A family-sponsored memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 15, at 1:00 PM, at the Forsyth Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
