Vernon W. Warren, 88, of Springfield.
Vernon Wayne Warren was called home to the Lord on July 3, 2022. Vern was born on June 14, 1934 to John Ellis and Nora (Hobbs) Warren in Swan, Missouri.
After a career in sales, and many years as a large equipment maintenance worker at John Deere Company, he found his passion in law enforcement. He served on the police auxiliary and was the range instructor in Rock Island, Illinois, and later served in the Stone County Sheriff’s Office and with the Barry County prosecutor’s office in Missouri. He also ran his own small businesses.
He was a longstanding member of Christian Motorcyclists Association and held a private pilot’s license for many years. Late in life he joined the Civil Air Patrol and attained the rank of Captain, where he was known for his radio communications expertise, particularly among cadets in training. A man of faith, he was ordained a pastor by Charles Todd of Revival Fire Ministries, and served two mission trips to China, experiences he described as some of the most important times of his life.
The side a lot of people might not have seen was the man who enjoyed hunting and fishing, who loved dogs and bluegrass music, and who couldn’t pass a roadside stand without stopping for fresh fruit. All of his children inherited his love of both ice cream and motorcycles.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maxine, and infant sister Erma Jean. He is survived by his children David, Larry, and Ann Warren, as well as five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many cousins.
