Traditional Visitation and Ceremony
Includes a viewing and visitation at the funeral home (generally 3-5 hours) the afternoon/evening before the funeral ceremony. Because the remains are present for the visitation and usually viewed by the public for a number of hours, embalming is done. The day after the visitation, a funeral service is held at the funeral home, church, or a funeral mass is held at a Catholic church. The funeral service is a formal ceremony with a message, music, scripture and remembrances of the deceased.
Same-Day (or One-Day) Visitation and Ceremony
Is a condensed version of the traditional service. The visitation is usually held for a period of time (2-3 hours) just prior to the funeral ceremony. While usually at the funeral home, this can also be done at the church. Embalming is done if the date of death is more than 24 hours before the scheduled service.
A gathering at the graveside while the officiant performs the committal service. There is no prior visitation at any facility beforehand.
A minimum burial offering that involves immediate burial (same day as death) of the remains with no visitation, viewing or services of any kind.
