On Saturday, October 9, Elissa (Altis) Walls, completed her fight, finished her race, and received her crown of righteousness from her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was 38.
From an early age, Elissa had a special affinity for children, especially babies. Her love of little ones led her to pursue a degree from Southwest Baptist University, majoring in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development. After teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, Elissa found her true fit as the Elementary Librarian at Forsyth Elementary. Being a librarian allowed Elissa to merge her love of children with her love of books.
Elissa found her true calling as a wife and mother. Elissa married Jeff Walls in July of 2004. In April of 2007, Elissa and Jeff welcomed their first-born, Jerrett Robert. Two years later, they welcomed Justus David. Before her illness, Elissa faithfully attended all of Jerrett and Justus’ events, from baseball games to cook-offs to archery tournaments. She was their number one fan.
In January of 2015, Elissa was diagnosed with brain cancer. For six years and nine months, Elissa bravely and courageously battled her disease. No matter the diagnosis or the prognosis, Elissa’s faith in Jesus never wavered. Up to the end, Elissa was a beacon of light and hope to everyone around her.
Elissa is survived by her husband, Jeff, and two sons, Jerrett and Justus; parents, David and Bonnee Altis; siblings and spouses Joshua and Bethany Altis, Zachary and Megan Altis, and Josiah and Jill Altis; nieces Ellie Goodman, Olivia Altis, Louise Altis, Elizabeth Altis, Mable Altis, and Ruby Altis; nephews Jackson Altis, Isaiah Altis, Judah Altis, and Levi Altis; and Grandmothers Lorayne Pape and Thelma Zeline Altis. She is preceded in death by her Grandfathers Harold D. Altis and Lee E. Pape.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Forsyth First Baptist Church. A visitation will be held at 9:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place in a closed ceremony at the Altis Family Cemetery in Cabool, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to make a donation to the Pregnancy Help Center in St. Louis or South Central Missouri Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
